The Gospel
Exactly what it is the gospel? The word "gospel" means good news. It is simply the good news of Jesus Christ. The gospel is good news to the sinful man that through Jesus Christ you can be saved. It is a personal relationship with Jesus Christ that allows us to experience salvation through Jesus Christ.
1. Realize that everyone is a sinner.
Yes, everyone. Even on our best days, we fall short of perfection. The problem with sin is that it separates us from God, and it brings a penalty that no man can change.
Romans 3:23 says, "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God."
2. Realize that sin has a price that must be paid.
God is just, and our sin and wickedness cannot go unpunished. The price for our sin is death.
Romans 6:23a says, "For the wages of sin is death;"
Not just the physical death of our bodies, but also eternal death in a place called hell that God has prepared for Satan.
Revelation 20:14-15 says, "And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire."
3. Realize that Jesus Christ died and rose again to pay for your sin.
Jesus Christ willingly became the payment! It was the only way that we could be spared. The sinless Son of God was the only hope for sinful man.
The rest of Romans 6:23 says, "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."
What amazing love God has for us!
John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
Jesus Christ, the Son of God, became a man and lived a perfect, sinless life in order to take the punishment of sin for us so that we don't have to!
Romans 5:8 says, "But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."
4. Receive Jesus as your personal Savior.
Jesus said in John 14:6, "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."
Jesus Christ is not a way, He is the way. There are no other means by which a person can be saved outside of a personal relationship with Jesus.
Romans 10:9 says, "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." Romans 10:13 says, "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."
You can make that decision today by calling upon the name of the Lord similar to this prayer:
"Dear God, I acknowledge my sin, and I confess that I cannot save myself. I believe that you are the Son of God and that you died and rose again for my sin. Right now, I receive you alone as my Savior and the way to eternal life. I ask you to forgive me of my sin, and I now trust you as my Savior. In Jesus' name, Amen."
